Tarmac Delay Policy

Effective Aug 23, 2011:

Hawaiian Airlines commits to take the following action in the event of delays while passengers are on the aircraft but not able to takeoff or complete taxiing to a gate.

  • To disembark Domestic flight passengers no later than three (3) hours, and International flight passengers no later than four (4) hours after departing from the gate or touching down. Exceptions to this rule include safety, security and Air Traffic Control (ATC) orders to remain on the tarmac.
  • To provide passengers food and water no later than 2 hours after departing from the gate or, in the case of arrival no later than 2 hours from touching down.
  • To provide a working lavatory and medical service as required when an aircraft is delayed on the ground with passengers on board.

A tarmac delay at departure is calculated from the time the aircraft pushes from the gate.

A tarmac delay upon arrival is calculated from the time the aircraft touches down till the aircraft has come to a stop at a gate where it can be connected via a jetbridge.

When Hawaiian flights are operated by other carriers, the operating carrier's Tarmac Delay rules apply.
